Welcome to Writing for Christ Dani Pettrey, it is great to have you here! So you’re a writer? What made you decide to start creating characters and story world?

I’ve always loved daydreaming and making up stories in my head. After the birth of my second daughter and a bout with a serious illness, God really put it on my heart to start putting some of these stories and ideas down on paper. I spent years just doodling (as I like to call it) before I decided to get serious about writing, but looking back I can see it was all part of the process.

What is the one title that has significantly impacted your life?

Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis. It really lets you see things from a different perspective and really impacted my walk with Christ.

If you could get a do-over when it came to learning this whole thing called writing, what would you go back and tell yourself?

Relax. God’s got it all under control. Everything happens in His timing. There’s no need to compare yourself or your writing timeline with anyone else’s. God only made one you so no one can tell a story exactly like you. Embrace how He’s made you unique and let that shine through in your writing.

Yes, I’m asking you to play favorites…which of your books is your favorite, published or unpublished? And if this is your debut novel, has your favorite been published yet?

Such a hard question. I love different things about all of my books. I love Cole and Bailey’s romance and the historical angle in Submerged. I love Piper and Landon’s bond and the mystery element in Shattered. I love Gage’s playfulness and Darcy’s curiosity in Stranded, but at the moment at least, Silenced is my favorite. Jake and Kayden’s story has been revealing itself since book one and it’s been so fun seeing their story come to life.
