Becoming a Hard Working Proverbs 31 Wife

She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. She sets about her work vigorously: her arms are strong for her tasks. She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night. In her hand she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her fingers.

Proverbs 31:16-19

I will admit to confusion whenever I read this section. Doesn't that seem something a man should do as the head of his household or is it just me that it seems like she is usurping her role a bit here? Then you have to read a bit farther down.

Her lamp never goes out at night.

She is hard worker. She isn't lazy with the hours God has given her. She takes what she does very seriously and in that seriousness is her willingness to make sure her family never lacks anything. She is savvy, she doesn't just let life pass her by. 

Work comes in all different forms. No one can be bound by the same rules that applies as far as what job or task you occupy. The homeschooling mom... or do you have to work outside the home?

The importance here is where you are placed at this season in your life, is are you competent at what you are doing? Are you just skating through life with the bare minimum? Or are you genuinely taking the time to learn your task, and doing it with everything within you to honor your position, but also God who placed you there in the first place.

Often we are put in jobs we don't care for. My mom has to work outside the home, the last place she wants to be, but while she is in this position, she learns what she can, she has grown the program, saved them money and knows how to do her job and it's multiple functions.

No matter what position you are in, SAHM (stay-at-home-mom), working outside or something altogether different, do it with every bit of you. Put your heart and soul into it and let your line shine for the One who gave it to you. Be like the woman in Proverbs 31 whose arms are strong, whose lamp never burns out.

The one who gives back to her family in every way she can. Because in that you are giving back to the King.
