Giveaway and Author Interview: Patchwork Dreams

  Welcome to Writing for Christ, Laura Hilton, it is great to have you here! Do you have an interesting fact about yourself the average reader probably doesn’t know? 

My husband and I married after only knowing each other three months. We will celebrate 25 years of marriage in December 2011. I was a Christmas bride, complete with tinsel, poinsettias and twinkly lights.

What surprised you the most about being a published author?   

That it’s as hard as it is to get published.  Most unpublished people think that its write a story send it in and the publishers will be fighting to make deals.  Reality is not that way.

Do you have a favorite genre to read/write?  

Reading:  I like *almost* any genre.  Beverly Lewis’ Amish fiction (plus other Amish authors), WWII romance (like Tricia Goyer), romantic suspense, women’s fiction and romance (contemporary and historical)   I like to write contemporary – never considered writing Amish fiction because I could never write as good as Beverly Lewis…but my agent encouraged me to try.  And it sold!  I’m still in shock.

When you aren’t writing or interacting with fans, what do you enjoy doing? 

Reading. Chatting with friends, playing with my children, playing tourist in my area or actually traveling to visit someplace new.

Do you have a nugget of writing advice that has completely changed how you view writing?

Two things, really. 1. What God has given you a passion for, He’s given you permission for.  And 2.  A writer-friend once told me she keeps a button by her computer—which stands for “Put your butt on the chair and write.”

What do you enjoy most about being a published author?  

I have an excuse to write.  Have to meet the deadlines. J

What do you like readers to take away from your books?  

That God is the God of second chances. He loves you—just where you are and wants you to return to Him.
