Giveaway! The Ride of Her Life by Lorna Seilstad!!

Welcome to Writing for Christ Lorna Seilstad, it is great to have you here! Do you have an interesting fact about yourself the average reader probably doesn’t know?

This one is always hard for me. Besides writing, I’m also a wedding coordinator. I haven’t done as many weddings, though, since I became published.  I love helping couples make their days magical and making sure everything comes off without a hitch. I also do some wedding flowers, too. I’ve had 400 red roses in my house at a time.

Do you have a favorite genre to read/write?

Obviously I love to read and write historical romance, but I also love science fiction/fantasy and mysteries. I’ve always loved the Dragons of Pern series by Ann McCaffrey. The way she created an entire world amazes me.

Do you have a nugget of writing advice that has completely changed how you view writing?

One thing I try to do is illicit some kind of emotional reaction from the reader on the first page. It might be to make them laugh, to feel a sense of justice, or to make them feel a sense of urgency. All of these make an emotional connection with the reader right from the start.

5 things you love?
Teaching Bible Classes ( I teach 5th and 6th Graders the book of Acts)
Oreos
Dove Chocolate
Sunday afternoon naps
The smell of lilacs

What do you enjoy most about being a published author?

There are a lot of things I love. I love interacting with readers, and I love telling the story I feel God has given me to share. I love the feeling of writing a scene that just comes together, and I love my writer friends like you Casey!

Casey: I love you too, Lorna! J

Lorna, I love the smell of lilacs, too. For awhile growing up, we lived in a house with a lilac bush right outside my window...I loved the scent coming in the window in the morning. :)

  34. LORNA!!! Sooo good to see you here, girl, and thanks to Case for hosting you!! I absolutely LOVED The Ride of Her Life because Lorna has such a fun, light style of writing reminiscent of Dee Gist or Mary Connealy, so her books are ALWAYS a delight to read.

Don't enter me in the drawing, Case, because I'm one of the lucky ones who already owns my own copy of this wonderful book.

    Hugs,
    Julie

  38. Good morning, everyone! And Casey, thank you for having me. I'm glad so many of you are interested in THE RIDE OF HER LIFE. It was such a fun book to write and research. And the cover? The artists at Revell deserve all the credit on that. Isn't it fun?

If anyone has any questions about rollercoasters in the early 1900's, Lake Manawa, or my writing journey, be sure to ask them in your comment and I'll try to come back throughout the day and answer them. :)

  39. I like you Lorna! I also do wedding flowers and know what it's like to have hundreds of roses, carnations etc. in the house. :) I really like your advice about grabbing the reader's emotions on the first page. It certainly keeps me reading when I'm 'grabbed' right away. "The Ride of Her Life" sounds great!
Thanks for a very interesting interview ladies.

    1. Susan, it's fun to meet someone who can relate. I was always suprised how little hundreds of roses can smell. Sometimes the wedding roses aren't the smelly kind of roses. Good luck!
