Giveaway and Author Interview: Beyond Summer

Welcome to Writing for Christ, Carie Lawson! Thank you for being with us today.

1: How long did you write before you were published?

About six years and three entire books. I loved the process of writing the books, so it didn't bother me. It gave me time to learn about the craft of writing. My writing is much better because of it.

2: When you held that first book in your hands, what was your first thought?

My books are coming out as e-books through Desert Breeze Publishing, so I haven't yet had the in-hand experience. But there's surge of happiness when I open my Kindle and click Beyond Africa or Beyond Summer and see the pretty covers with my name on them.

3: What are you working on now?

I'm currently revising Beyond Ever After which will come out in March of next year. It's the story of Haven McCord who married her high school sweetheart against the wishes of her family and is now stuck in a marriage that never grew up. She and her husband, Brody, go to Africa together and remember all the reasons they fell in love.

4: Where can readers find out more about your books?

Desert Breeze Publishing website, desertbreezepublishing.com or my website, carielawsonbooks.com both have snippets and more details.

5: What message(s) do you want to be clear to your readers?

What I believe is that God's given us the Bible to teach us the best way to live. It's certainly been true in my own life and I can't write anything apart from that truth. It's not the message of my writing, but it is the paradigm in which all of my stories are written.

6: What are two things that people wouldn't normally know about you as a writer and or person?

Okay, here's a good one. I didn't tell anyone in my family...not even my husband...that I was writing until after I'd finished the first book. My husband is always joking around, which is one of the things that I love about him, and I just didn't want to be teased about it. So I kept it a secret until it was finished. He came in from work one day and I welcomed him home by saying, "So, I've written this book..." As secrets go, I guess that one wasn't too bad.

The second is that I'm on the cover of Jen Stephen's book The Heart's Journey Home. We are in a writer's group together and after she was contracted, she asked me to be on the cover. I was surprised and honored. The Heart's Journey Home came out in February and my first book, Beyond Africa, came out in March.

Thank you for being with us today. Any final words for readers?

Thank you for having me today. I hope that readers enjoying reading my books as much as I enjoyed writing them.

  17. Carrie is an amazing lady. I enjoyed her telling about keeping her book a secret from her husband until she was finished. She must carry lots of real character in her person to be the model for a book cover. That's quite fascinating. Her book sounds equally fascinating and I'd like to read it. Thanks for the giveaway copy, Carrie; and thanks Casey for the chance to win...I hope I do!
