Giveaway and Author Interview: Love Finds You on Christmas Morning

Welcome back to Writing for Christ Trish Perry, I am excited to have you here for a second time.

What has changed in your writing life since you were last here?

I think the last time we “chatted,” we talked about the first of my Tea with Millicent novels (The Perfect Blend). Since then, the second in that series released (Tea for Two), as well as Delight Yourself in the Lord…Even on Bad Hair Days, a fun devotional I wrote with Kristin Billerbeck, Sandra Bricker, Diann Hunt, and Debby Mayne. Those all released this spring, along with my nostalgic historical, Unforgettable, which is set in the early 50s. Since the last interview I’ve also worked on a few collaborative projects that will be released over the next few months: Love Finds You on Christmas Morning (which we’re giving away with this interview); another devotional, God’s Grace is Sufficient…Decaf is NOT; releasing in November, and The Midwife’s Legacy, releasing in March. I’ve been busy, and God has truly blessed me!

What recent read stood out to you as truly spectacular?

I’d have to say Room, by Emma Donoghue. It’s written for the ABA, and I really had no desire to read it. I read it because my book club chose it. But I thought the novel, written from the viewpoint of a young boy, was absolutely stunning. It gripped me right from the start.

Do you have favorite authors?
I don’t have any one favorite, but I love so many! I know in our past interview here I mentioned some of my favorites already. So I’ll add to my original list by mentioning David Mitchell, Susan Meissner, Sandra Bricker, Kathryn Stockett, Mary Ann Shaffer, Ken Follett, Jane Austen, and so many more. As I mentioned before, I like to mix up the genres (as well as ABA and CBA) from one book to the next

What do you find the most enjoyable part of writing or connecting with readers?

These days the social aspect of the industry is one of my favorite experiences. I love interacting with fellow writers, brainstorming and sharing knowledge with one another. And the greatest blessing of being a writer is always that interaction with the readers. Whether we’re discussing someone else’s books or mine, I love the way novels help people discuss what’s on their hearts. The community of it is fantastic, especially since this can be a very solitary profession.

What do you find the most ideal atmosphere for writing? Do you ever get those surroundings?

Actually, I often experience my ideal surroundings these days. When I was first starting out, there were too many family obligations, and I had to fight for time alone or time without some responsibility hanging over me. Today I still have plenty of responsibility, but I’m an empty nester, so I often enjoy my favorite writing atmosphere, which is total quiet. I’m far too easily distracted for anything other than that!

Okay, something fun for those writers out there: In what point of your writing career did you surprise yourself by writing the most words ever in the shortest amount of time?

Because of my writing schedule and some professional training I’ve been doing lately, I found I had to write an entire novella in less than a month. But I have to say, the Lord truly stepped in, and I finished the book even more quickly than I needed to. I love it when that happens! It’s all about Him, though. Sometimes I absolutely crawl from word to word, but this time He practically wrote the book for me.

Thanks for being here again! It has been a joy and we wish the very best with your novels.

Thanks for having me, Casey. I look forward to giving a copy of Love Finds You on Christmas Morning to one of your readers!
