Giveaway! After All by Deborah Raney

Welcome to Writing for Christ, Deborah Raney, it is great to have you here! Do you have an interesting fact about yourself the average reader probably doesn’t know?

I'm the oldest of five children, 4 girls and a boy, who married the oldest of 4 boys and a girl! One of my sisters even dated one of Ken's brothers for a while.

Do you have a favorite genre to read/write?

I love reading the genre I write, women's fiction. There's something very affirming about reading about women much like me, and exploring why our faith gives us hope for the future and tools to live life with integrity and with incredible joy––sometimes despite our circumstances.

Do you have a nugget of writing advice that has completely changed how you view writing?

My "nugget" is something I wrote a few years ago for a collection one of my writers groups produced called What the Wind Picked Up:

The most valuable lesson I've learned about the writer's life is that it is full of ups and downs. In your own eyes, you will never, ever "arrive." Some months you'll be on top and feel wonderful about how things are going; other months you'll be sure your career is over. The sooner you accept that this is normal––and just show up at your desk anyway, day after day after day––the more likely you are to start having more ups than downs. Besides, it's not about you anyway. Though the act of writing may be therapeutic for the writer, a book doesn't really come to life until it's read by someone else. If God uses your story to bring joy or comfort or reproof or wisdom to even one other life, you are a success in the eyes of the only One who matters.
––Deborah Raney, author of The Hanover Falls Novels

5 things you love?

1. My amazing family (and especially our four precious grandkids!)
2. Homemade peanut butter chocolate ice cream
3. Early mornings by the fireplace
4. Coffee
5. Peonies and lilacs

What do you enjoy most about being a published author?

That I can make my own hours, which gives me the freedom to travel to see our grandkids often. I also love hearing from my readers, and the friendships I've enjoyed with other authors.

Places for readers to learn more about you?
