Welcome to Writing for Christ Ann Gaylia O'Barr, it is great to have you here! Do you
have an interesting fact about yourself the average reader probably doesn’t
know?
Before I began my job as a U.S.
Foreign Service officer for the State Department, I had never applied for a
passport. My first assignment to Saudi Arabia was my first trip out of North
America. My early stories often involved an American woman beginning her first
overseas experience, I suppose because my first foreign experience was so
memorable (and scary).
Do you have a favorite genre to read/write?
I like “upmarket” women’s fiction/romances,
which means they are character-driven.
Do you have a nugget of writing
advice that has completely changed how you view writing?
A quote by Madeleine L’Engle:
“Writing is simply part of breathing and living. It’s also a way of trying to
understand what my life is about and, indeed, everybody’s”
5 things you love?
Reading, writing, and rainy
afternoons when I’m free to do both. Also, hiking with my husband and
stimulating conversation with family/friends.
What novel have you recently read that has stood out to you that both
teens and adults will find enjoyment in?
I recently enjoyed Meg Moseley’s When Sparrows Fall, a finalist this year
in the ACFW Genesis contest, Women’s Fiction. I liked the subtle characterization. Faith is
a part of the natural deepening of their lives and of their growth.

This book sounds wonderful! I would love to win it, but even if I don't, it is going on my wish list.
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds like it would be a perfect read for a rainy Sunday afternoon. I usually take a nap when I come home from church but I'll gladly give it up for a good book.

This book sounds remarkable. Wow. And Ann sounds a bit like Wonder Woman to me. If Wonder Woman wrote a book, I'd read it... so I think I'll just have to read this one!

Thanks for your comments, folks. This book was especially enjoyable to write. A lot of the background comes from my experiences. It is complete fiction, however!

Thanks. This is a kind of "prequel" to a book I wrote earlier. The secondary characters in that book became the main actors here. Sometimes characters grow on me, so I continue to follow them.
