Giveaway! When the Heart Heals by Ann Shorey!

Welcome back to Writing for Christ Ann Shorey, I am excited to have you here for a second time. : -)

Thank you, Casey! I’m excited to be back. Thank you for inviting me.

What has changed in your writing life since you were last here?

I’ve noticed that I’m busier than ever! Right now I’m trying to keep up with writing, friends, and family—not always successfully. I need to come up with a better time management plan.

What recent read stood out to you as truly spectacular?

I finished reading Lynn Austin’s All Things New right before Christmas, and am still thinking about the story. Her gifted writing gave me a greater appreciation for the devastation the South suffered during the War Between the States. She did a great job of showing how each character changed as a result of their experiences.

Do you have favorite authors?

I have several favorite authors—too many to list, really. For starters, Lynn Austin, Laura Frantz, Julie Klassen and Liz Curtis Higgs. You’ll notice they each write historical fiction, which is my favorite genre to read, as well as write.

What do you find the most enjoyable part of writing or connecting with readers?

The most enjoyable part of writing for me is when my characters do something totally right for the scene, yet I hadn’t anticipated the story going in the direction they take it. It’s always better, and always fun!

The most enjoyable part of connecting with readers is face-to-face visits at book signings or reader’s groups. I know I can’t meet with every reader (although I wish I could!), so if we can’t meet face-to-face I love hearing from readers via email or Facebook. Postal mail is great, too. Readers, please don’t hesitate to contact a favorite author. Speaking for myself, it’s a joy to connect with you.

My website, www.annshorey.com has a contact page where readers can find all my internet connections as well as a postal address.

What do you find the most ideal atmosphere for writing? Do you ever get those surroundings?

Ha! Good question! The ideal atmosphere would be in a private office with a secretary to answer the phone, and a research assistant to dig up facts on the fly. But—that’s not my life. A good day for me is spent in my upstairs office in our home with no telephone interruptions and strong will power in place to ignore Facebook.

Okay, something fun for those writers out there: In what point of your writing career did you surprise yourself by writing the most words ever in the shortest amount of time?

That’s a hard question to answer. I do watch my word count while I write, and sometimes the story flows so fast that I’m amazed at how many words I’ve written when I’m finished for the day. But I’ve never made a note of the number of words when that happens. Maybe I’ll pay better attention from now on.

Thanks for being here again! It has been a joy and we wish the very best with your novels.

Thank you for inviting me!
