Stories That Never Fade: The Meeting Place by T. Davis Bunn and Janette Oke

It’s the third time I have picked up “The Meeting Place” by the talented duo of Bunn and Oke and it’s like I’ve never read it before. The story remains fresh and vibrant across the years since it was first published to just last night when I closed the cover on the final page.

Every good story is about a relationship, a love story. Not a romance, but love. Love between friends, child and parent, a husband and wife, a love for country. “The Meeting Place” has this and so much more. I am always drawn in by the depth of research that must have gone into this book, the landscape becomes another character, especially the meadow where Louise and Catherine meet.

The characters in their actions, their struggles and their determination against a time that must have felt every bit as uncertain as our own, makes them extremely endearing to me. Which I think is one of the reasons I love this book, it doesn’t matter that it was based three hundred years ago. It could have happened today and I can only hope to face such trials with the grace of the Robichauds and Harrows.

It goes without saying that this book has more than impact, it has spirit, valor, heart wrenching moments, moments of forgiveness and crossing boundaries no one would have thought passable.

It is a story that retains its freshness and beauty long after the final page has been turned. What else could you expect from such a talented writing team?

  1. This book touched me so much!! I was hooked from the very beginning and I was holding my breath to the very end - what a story!

Sad to say, I haven't read any other books in this series - I don't know if I just haven't gotten around to it or if I am afraid to find out what happens to the girls. LOL! :-) But maybe I will dare to pick up the rest of the books...one day!

  4. It has been quite awhile since I've read this book. Remember that I loved it....of course it was by Janette Oke!
If I remember correctly people were loaded onto boats and families were not put together. This was how they got rid of some of the French out of Canada...also how the Cajun people came about. Hope I'm correct in my memory! Know my Mom's side is Canadian French and often wondered if this happened to them?
    Thanks for the great reminder!

  6. You are correct Maureen! The book ended with them getting on the boat and SPOILER ALERT, the babies swapped.

  7. I haveThe Meeting Place, and I have most all of Janette Oke's books and have read them all. I started years ago when they first started coming out, and when I finished one couldn't wait for the next one to come out. I then thought these would make great movies, and wow, sure enough they are in movies. Praise the Lord. Juanita W

  8. My mom was just like that Juanita. I remember her getting Janette's books in this series and being excited and finishing them within days of receiving it. That's a big deal for my mom!

Though, this series wasn't made into movies, the Love Comes Softly series did make a great film. :)

    Thanks for coming by today!!

  9. I just might, now that I know it ends well, Casey. I've read series in the past where they seem to just ruin the characters lives and the first book is the only good one - so that was what I was afraid of with this series. But that's great that it does! I'll have to check and see if my library has the rest of this series - that's where I got the first book. :-)
