Giveaway! Winds of Wyoming by Rebecca Lyles!

Welcome to Writing for Christ Rebecca Lyles, it is great to have you here! Do you have an interesting fact about yourself the average reader probably doesn’t know?

While hiking in Wyoming’s Snowy Range, I came within ten feet of a white wolf. The curious creature was sitting by a tree watching my family wander through the woods. I whispered to the others to stop, but when I looked again, the wolf was gone, and my husband and children missed the thrill of seeing a wolf up close. As we sat around the campfire that night, we kept our ears tuned for a spine-chilling wolf howl; but, alas, it didn’t choose to serenade us.

Do you have a favorite genre to read/write?

I read anything that catches my interest, fiction or nonfiction. Just read “Hope Rising–Stories from the Ranch of Rescued Dreams” by Kim Meeder and loved it. And there’s nothing better than a good long novel that sucks me into the story and keeps me there long after I finish it. “The Grapes of Wrath” did that for me years ago.

Do you have a nugget of writing advice that has completely changed how you view writing?

Dwight Swain’s “Techniques of the Selling Writer” helped me understand motivation-reaction, scene and sequel, and the necessity of conflict and building tension from the beginning to the end of a novel.

5 things you love?

I love God, my husband, my family and my friends (plus chocolate-covered nuts!), but I like to walk in my neighborhood, hike and camp in the mountains, study the Bible with other women, and volunteer with ministries that serve children and incarcerated/formerly incarcerated women.

What novel have you recently read that has stood out to you that both teens and adults will find enjoyment in?

I think adult as well as teen readers would enjoy “River Rising” by Athol Dickson and “Safely Home” by Randy Alcorn. Both are great books with great themes.
